It's First Friday! Live music throughout town, restaurant specials, longer shop hours and art show openings all make it a fun night to head to downtown Manteo to meet your friends and neighbors. And, of course, it's a great night for a book signing! This month we will be hosting Virginia writer Ray McAllister who has written a number of books about the Outer Banks including Hatteras Island and Ocracoke- the Pearl of the Outer Banks; in addition he has published Uncle Jack's Outer Banks- a collection of 'Uncle Jack' Sandberg's columns from back in the day and republished Ellen Fulcher Cloud's two classics- Portsmouth: The Way It Was and Ocracoke Lighthouse and the Old Salts. Ray's company, Beach Glass Books, is also the publisher of Charles Oldham's two titles- The Senator's Son and Ship of Blood.
Ray will be with us from 5pm to 7:30pm signing books, meeting fans and talking about his books. First Friday is a fun, free, family friendly event taking place throughout the downtown Manteo area. Downtown Books is located at 103 Sir Walter Raleigh Street and is the independent bookstore serving Roanoke Island and all of the Outer Banks.
