Michele Young-Stone signing
Did you know that living here on the Outer Banks is an extremely talented young writer whose book was chosed as one of the 'Ten Titles To Pick Up Now' by Oprah Magazine (may '18)? Outer Banks resident and nationally published author, Michele Young-Stone's most recent novel is Lost in the Beehive.. and it blew me away. I can't say enough about this book.. the characters, the story, it almost reads like a memoir, so much that I was sad when I finished and remembered that these people weren't out walking around in the world somewhere. Here's the blurb from Oprah..
"In this heartrending and ultimately heartwarming novel, a spunky 16-year-old fakes her way through gay conversion therapy and absconds with another patient to experience the boho buzz of 1960s New York."
But it is so very much more. The book follows Gloria (the 16 year old) as she grows up and tries to get past her early years. She makes unfortunate choices in men and life, but always the bees come to help her find her feet and finally, herself. I compare the writing in this novel to Jeannette Wall (Glass Castle) and Patty Smith (Just Kids) - read it and you'll see why. Staff is currently passing this one around and giving it nothing but glowing reviews. This is a MUST READ for summer 2018 and Michele is an author you will be hearing about for years.
Please come by on August 10 to meet Michele and see what all the buzz is about! She will be signing books and meeting fans from 9am - 11am.
