James Charlet Appearance & Book Signing

Join Downtown Books and the Dare County Arts Council for an exciting evening with 'Keeper James' as he talks about America's Forgotten Heroes - the United States Lifesaving Service. James Charlet has been involved with the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Historic Site & Museum for 21 years and was the Site Manager of the Historic Site for 10 of those years. He is on the board of the Outer Banks History Center, the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society, is the editor of Wreck & Rescue Quarterly Journal and has more accolades than can be mentioned here. To say the least, he knows a thing or two about US Lifesaving Service History. So much in fact that he was just selected to take part as a presenter at Our State Magazine's esteemed Best of Our State 2023 weekend next January in Pinehurst, NC. His favorite part of working at Chicamacomico was talking with thousands of visitors from all over America and the world. He has done hundreds of formal, group presentations and on this evening will be presenting a dramatic story- dressed in historically accurate garb- about the United States Lifesaving Service and signing copies of his book, Shipwrecks of the Outer Banks, a best-seller at Downtown Books.

This event is free, open to the public and will take place in the second floor gallery at the Dare County Arts Council. Signed books will be shipped after the event.
