It's First Friday! This month, Downtown Books is very honored to be hosting Newberry Honor award winner Sheila Turnage! Sheila is a North Carolina writer whose book Three Times Lucky was a New York Times best-seller and perennial elementary school favorite. Her popular Mo & Dale Mystery series also includes The Ghosts of Tupelo Landing, The Odds of Getting Even and The Law of Finders Keepers. In 2022 Sheila released yet another juvenile mystery, this one set on Hatteras Island! Island of Spies introduces the Dime Novel kids, a trio of twelve year old best friends living on Hatteras Island where life moves as steady as the tides. As wannabe detectives, they long for a paying case and a prime assignment from the FBI. As the strangest kids on Hatteras Island, they crave the respect that comes with solving a huge mystery. But the FBI isn't writing back. Suspicious newcomers have come ashore. And now, Nazi U-boats are torpedoing US ships just offshore – and no help is coming. First Friday is a fun, free, family friendly event taking place throughout downtown Manteo featuring live music, later shop hours, art show openings, book signings, trunk shows and more. It's a great night to meet friends and family downtown!
