FIRST FRIDAY BOOK SIGNING - SCOTT DAWSON
This is our best-selling book of 2020 and we're excited to welcome back author Scott Dawson for a book signing of his summer hit- The Lost Colony and Hatteras Island. Scott's book has been featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post, Virginia Pilot, regional TV and more.
The legend of the Lost Colony has been captivating imaginations for nearly a century. When they left Roanoke Island, where did they go? What is the meaning of the mysterious word Croatoan? In the sixteenth century, Croatoan was the name of an island to the south now known as Hatteras. Scholars have long considered the island as one of the colonists' possible destinations, but only recently has anyone set out to prove it. Archaeologists from the University of Bristol, working with local residents through the Croatoan Archaeological Society, have uncovered tantalizing clues to the fate of the colony. Hatteras native and amateur archaeologist Scott Dawson compiles what scholars know about the Lost Colony along with what scholars have found beneath the soil of Hatteras. Filled with pictures and interesting revelations, this book has been a must-read with both locals and visitors.
Scott will be at Downtown Books on October 2 (First Friday) from 4pm - 7pm meeting friends, greeting fans and signing books. Our friends from Outer Banks Distilling will also be here with their Kill Devil Rum tasting table for a little extra fun.
Masks will be required (save for rum tasting) and proper social distancing measures followed. If necessary, store occupancy may be limited at times. Autographed copies will be shipped after the event- signed books make great holiday gifts!
