We have just confirmed a First Friday Be The Match bone marrow registry drive in honor of John Buford, our friend, beloved member of the entire Outer Banks community and Dare County Schools 2023 Teacher of the Year. John was recently diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and has already begun chemotherapy. One of the best options for fighting this disease is a stem cell transplant. If you are a healthy person between the ages of 18 and 40, a simple cheek swab is all it takes to give John, and so many other patients like him, hope and possibly a cure. Stop by on Friday, October 6, between 4pm and 8pm- we will have trained volunteers on hand to answer your questions and help people with their swabs. If you are over 40 and want to help, we could use volunteers! Please reach out to Angela Smith at 252-267-4497 if you can help. We will also have a link to John's Go Fund Me at the event and a banner where friends can write some words of support for John's journey.
