Small Business Saturday is a big deal at Downtown Books.. while of course we think people should choose to shop small EVERY day, this is one day when we truly celebrate our independent business and to fully make the most of the day (and the holiday weekend) we're bringing back Authorpalooza! Authorpalooza will feature five local authors (5 at this writing, could be more!) stationed throughout the store signing books for three hours! All have published books this year that have had great sales and would make terrific holiday presents or special Outer Banks keepsakes. On the line-up... drum roll please.... popular mystery writer Joseph Terrell whose 2019 release was Deadly Dreams of Summer and yes, it was a Harrison Weaver novel! Harrison is Joseph's recurring character, a retired crime writer who has relocated to the Outer Banks and always seems to end up amidst local murder and mayhem. Lots of local settings, back-drops and characters! Suzanne Tate published her 40th title in her best-selling Children's Nature Series- Tommy Tuna: Tale of a Big Fish! With colorful illustrations by James Melvin, Suzanne explores the world of a bluefin tuna. Suzanne will also be happy to sign any of her previous titles from the series- all make great stocking stuffers! Earlier this year, Roanoke Island natives Wayne and Nancy Beach Gray released Commercial Fishing on the Outer Banks- a wonderful collection of photographs accompanied by text tracing the history of this vital industry on our shores from the Algonquin Indians to today's luxurious sportfish charter boats. A must for the OBX history lover in your life! The newest featured title at Authorpalooza will be Corolla resident Dyanne Kelley's Soulfire Woman: How to Torch your Past, Ignite Your Present and Set Your Soul on Fire. In this book Dyanne shares her journey and hopes to help every woman step into their power and become who they were always meant to be - perfect for every woman on your list! Last but certainly not least, is one of our biggest sellers for 2019- Amy Gaw and her History Press title- Lost Restaurants of the Outer Banks and Their Recipes. In this phenomenal book, Amy has collected stories, anecdotes and photographs of many restaurants that served the Outer Banks for many years.. but are no longer here. It includes recipes and memories from patrons and servers that will instantly spark a trip down memory lane. Our customers have been buying this two, three, four copies at a time for their friends, children, other family members... it is the ideal book to put under the tree this year.
Five authors... three hours... one location: Authorpalooza 2019 at Downtown Books at 105 Sir Walter Raleigh Street in Downtown Manteo.
***Signed books will be shipped after the event.
