Andrew Lawler: How the Lost Colony Got Lost
Dare Day is an annual celebration of the history of Dare County held in Downtown Manteo on the first Saturday of June. A mix of music, rides, arts and crafts, history and more, it is a great opportunity to celebrate the heritage of our 'goodliest land'. In keeping with that philosophy, Downtown Books and the Dare County Arts Council put forth a lecture by author Andrew Lawler whose most recent title is The Secret Token: Myth, Obsession and the Search for the Lost Colony of Roanoke. Two events on the Outer Banks featured Lawler last year and both were extremely well attended. His research for the book was some of the most thorough on the Lost Colony that we have ever seen, filling in lots of blanks and giving the reader much food for thought. As the paperback release of The Secret Token approaches, Andrew is making a swing back through Dare County and, fittingly, providing a midday presentation on Dare County's very own Lost Colony.
This event is free and open to the public. Mr. Lawler will be signing books after the event and will also be featured at a Dare Day booth throughout the day.
